It's that time of year again...
It may be winter, but everyone is looking at summer plans. Here at School of Crafts a few things will be changing for the summer of 2019. In the past I have worked with Arlington County and have hosted my camps at a local elementary school. This year Arlington has changed some of their requirements and it wasn't too beneficial to tiny little camps like mine. So, I have decided to go at it on my own.
This summer I will be hosting camps in my home studio (aka my basement). Due to these changes I have had to modify how I will be doing my camps, but I think you will find it will benefit your kids!
First big change is that I will be downsizing my class size. My home studio isn't as big as a classroom so instead of 8 campers per camp I will only be having 5. This means much more individualized instruction for your kids! Each child will still have a sewing machine and their own sewing space so there will be no waiting time.
My next big change... Students will sign up as an independent study. I will not break up my camps and weeks into specific topics like in the past (ex:Intro to Sewing, Modern Quilting, Using Patterns). Since there will only be 5 kids I can much more easily teach individually what kids specifically want to learn. If students tell me I just want to learn how to sew on a sewing machine, I will teach them my Intro to Sewing curriculum. If another student wishes to make something they saw a pattern for on Pinterest, I will teach them my Using Patterns Curriculum.
After registering your child I will send you a confirmation email within 24 hours with payment information and a link to a questionnaire I would like for you to fill out with your child. This will help me plan and have appropriate fabrics and projects ready to go for them.
Schedule:
Like in the past I will have a morning (9am-12) and afternoon camp (1-4pm). If students register for both the morning and afternoon camp they will have lunch (that they bring from home) during the 12-1pm break. I will run camps for three consecutive weeks in July.
July 8-12
July 15-19
July 22-26
Cost: $235
Since all camps will be tailored to your child specifically all camps will include all materials (sewing machine, fabric, thread, cutters, notions, etc). Students are always welcome to bring their own sewing machines in order to learn how to use it. I will be taking the things they tell me in the questionnaire and do my best to make sure I purchase and have on hand all things they would need in order to learn what they wish to learn.
